Restoration of Long Gallery S1-3.

A Brief History

17C Long Gallery.

By 1717 assumed remodeling for Sir Thomas Powys.

1740s Best Staircase curtailled and only serves the first floor - Long Gallery reduced in status.

By 1843 divided to form 5 bachelors’ bedrooms.

1942 Guest bedrooms.

Removal of partitions introduced in 19C to form bedrooms.

Restoration to its early 18C form.

Dormer windows S1b/w1 and S3c/w1 removed and blocked up (see exterior alterations).

Door S4a/d2 fitted to lobby S4a, to match door S1c/d1 adjacent.

Block up diagonal entrance lobby S3b and reform as square lobby.

Door S3b/d2 fitted to revised lobby to match door S1c/d1.

New partition to form cupboard S3d including door S3d/d1.
