A Brief History

17C Inner Chamber

1740s Recast by Flitcroft Plasterwork roundel documented as by Flitcroft. Modilion cornice Chimneypiece and overmantle (lost overmantle painting),  bas-relief head survives with palms in open pediment. Plaque with Doorcases and doors. Bed Alcove with coffered vault enriched with flowers.

by 1840s Alcove reduced to facilitate creation of Red Dressing Room.

185*     Bas-relief portrait introduced in Flitcroft roundel.

 

What's to do

Restoration of bed alcove following evidence of existing detail. Removal of sheeting from over-door panels F3/d2-3.
Removal of sheeting from overmantle and restoration of missing detail to chimneypiece and overmantle as Habershon survey and following imprint.
