Servants' Hall

Alterations of Servants’ Hall B12b to form serving room

A Brief History

1630s Part of the original house. Four-centred chimneypiece remains in situ.

1909 Dunn and Watson Extension B12c constructed out into basement area, including opening up of original west  wall and removal of windows. Partitioning off of south side of room to form Cellar passage B12a, including the removal of the floor above to provide head room from cellar stair and new stair from ground floor to ground floor mezzanine.

What's to do

The 1909 extension is demolished and the elevation reinstated on its original line with two new windows B19b/w1-w2 with detailing to match B19a/w2. The wall is to be plastered. The ground floor mezzanine stair over and the steps in the cellar passage are removed, and a shaft for a food hoist constructed.  (Areas disturbed 1909) A food hoist is installed to the new serving room (G12c) on the ground floor. The floor is raised to provide level access from the kitchen. The dropped ceiling is taken down and the concealed lime plaster above is revealed and repaired.
